A little bit about me Contact me
I am a maker. I need to make and constantly explore. And have fun doing it!
My interests are eclectic. I came to making late and don’t have a formal art education. I am largely self-taught and I study and play in various mediums from stitch to paint. I find I keep turning back to fabric and fibre. To this end I have found that short classes have helped my exploration of creative techniques using fabric and fibre and the creation of truly mixed media works.
In 2008 I took drawing classes and have discovered that, with application and practise, I can draw.
My exploration of mixed media techniques led to the discovery of Paverpol, a textile hardener which makes fabric weatherproof, and modelling and sculpting using air dried clays. All things feed each other I have found that pushing myself to do life drawing has really helped me when I am making figure sculptures.
(I tried welding but it didn’t quite take me where I wanted to go …maybe some time in the future I will make ‘huge’ and need to revisit those skills?)
I regularly exhibit with my home group at the Embroiderers’ Guild NSW and at Guild exhibitions.
I have successful conducted one ay workshops in Garden Art workshops at Azure’s Den in Concord, Sydney Community College in 2015 and private “arty parties”.
Major achievements include:
· Two touring exhibitions with a group of talented fibre artists:
o ‘WRAP unwrapped” was hung at a number of venues including NSW Parliament House Sydney in 2009.
o “MAPS – you are here” which travelled up the coast commencing at Shoalhaven Regional Gallery, then McGlade Galle.ry at Strathfield Campus of ACU and ending at Cessnock Regional Gallery in March 2014.
· Making a U tube video series for Embroiderers’ Guild NSW/City of Canada Bay community project.
IN 2019 I will have works in a touring exhibition with four fabulous artists called 'Off the Beaten Track". We will be exhibting at Shoalhaven Regional Gallery and Cessnock Regional Galley
